Padmanabh (Paddy) Sinha
Managing Partner, Tata Opportunities Fund
Padmanabh (Paddy) Sinha is the Managing Partner of the TOF Team, with 15 years of private equity experience in India, a strong track record of investments, portfolio monitoring and divestments across a total portfolio value in excess of USD 1.8 billion.
Padmanabh (Paddy) Sinha is the Managing Partner of the TOF Team having joined Tata Capital at TOF I’s inception in 2011.
Mr. Sinha has been involved with venture capital and private equity in India since 1999, initially as an internet entrepreneur where he played a pivotal role through the company’s lifecycle; from capital raising, driving growth and its eventual strategic sale. From 2002, he was a senior investment professional and worked through the cycle of private equity investing, portfolio management (including several board positions) and divestiture. He has led, co-led and been actively involved in over 22 investments in India, with a total portfolio value of over USD 1.8 billion.
In 2011, Mr. Sinha joined the TOF Team from Temasek Holdings, where he was the Managing Director for India having helped set up the India investment programme in 2004. He also led a number of Temasek’s global special projects in the insurance sector, including a potential investment of over USD 2 billion in a leading insurance business, which involved significant engagement with the Temasek board. At Temasek, Mr. Sinha also worked closely with the Tata group on a number of initiatives, and led Temasek's investment in Tata Sky (a current portfolio company of TOF I) becoming Temasek’s nominee on the board.
Prior to Temasek, Mr. Sinha was a Vice President – Investments with ICICI Venture, the private equity business sponsored by ICICI Bank. From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Sinha was a founding team member and President and CFO of eGurucool, an e-learning business funded by ChrysCapital, STAR (Newscorp) and the IFC, and eventually sold to NIIT (India). Prior to that, he was an investment banker, largely with a JP Morgan-ICICI joint venture investment bank in India.
Currently, Mr. Sinha sits on the boards of Tata Sky, Varroc, Tata Projects, Shriram Properties and Roots Corporation (Ginger Hotels). Previously, he held board positions in many companies across various sectors, including some large companies such as Bharti Infratel. He is the Vice Chairman of the Indian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (IVCA).
Mr. Sinha graduated from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (MBA) and Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BE Honors, Computer Science).
Partner, Tata Opportunities Fund
Gautham Radhakrishnan is a Partner of the TOF Team with 17 years of private equity fund management and investing experience in India, Europe and internationally. His experience spans from venture to buyouts in a range of industries with total deal value in excess of USD 1.5 billion.
Gautham Radhakrishnan joined the TOF Team at Tata Capital in 2013 as a Partner and is active in advising TOF I in respect of its governance, investment processes, portfolio monitoring and investor relations issues.
Prior to joining the team, Mr. Radhakrishnan served as Director at Actis Private Equity in Mumbai where he led the firm’s investments in business and financial services and served on the boards of two US-India specialist technology services companies, Integreon and Anthelio Healthcare.
Prior to Actis, Mr. Radhakrishnan was London based and a Principal at Warburg Pincus from 2001 to 2009. While at Warburg Pincus, he was involved in large-cap leveraged buyouts and mid-market growth capital and venture investments covering developed and emerging Europe with an initial focus on technology and financial services and, subsequently, on industrial and consumer. In his eight years at Warburg Pincus, Mr. Radhakrishnan was involved in all aspects of investing including origination, acquisition debt financing, portfolio monitoring and exits, working with nine Warburg Pincus portfolio investments, spanning fintech, software, IT/BPO services, marketing services, insurance, real estate and industrial manufacturing. Prior to Warburg Pincus, Mr. Radhakrishnan was at JP Morgan (London) for five years in M&A and Structured Debt, working as an Associate.
Currently, Mr. Radhakrishnan sits on the board of Shriram Properties and supports the TOF I investments in Uber and Fincare.
Mr. Radhakrishnan graduated from INSEAD (MBA), Imperial College with distinction (MSc Computer Science) and St. John’s College, University of Cambridge (MA Computer Science), where he studied as a sponsored engineering student backed by Nortel Networks. Mr. Radhakrishnan also won a placement in 1993 to work as a coding analyst at the high energy particle physics laboratory, CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
Partner, Tata Opportunities Fund
Bobby Pauly is a Partner and a founding member of the TOF Team and has 17 years of experience in private equity, strategy consulting and operations.
Bobby Pauly joined Tata Capital Private Equity in 2007 as its first employee and has been instrumental in conceptualising and nurturing the private equity business of Tata Capital. Mr. Pauly developed the initial concept and strategy of TOF I, to which he was assigned on an exclusive basis in early 2010, and became a Partner in 2013.
Since the launch of TOF I, Mr. Pauly advised in relation to TOF I's investments in Varroc, Tata Projects, TVS Logistics and Roots Corporation (Ginger Hotels) and continues to drive value-creation at these companies. He is on the board of TVS Logistics and Ginger Hotels, and is an observer on the board of Tata Projects.
Prior to joining Tata Capital, Mr. Pauly directed the Private Equity and India Entry verticals of Tata Strategic Management Group ("TSMG"), a strategy consulting company within the Tata group, where he spent seven years providing strategic advice to Indian and international clients. Mr. Pauly led a team of 10 consultants and established the Private Equity franchise at TSMG where he advised buy-side clients on over USD 450 million of private equity and merger and acquisition transactions.
Whilst at TSMG, Mr. Pauly also led the advisory team that assisted the Investment Commission of India (led by Mr. Ratan Tata and established under the Prime Minister's Office) on strategies to expand foreign and private investment in India. Mr. Pauly has wide and deep networks within Tata, having advised numerous Tata companies and the Tata group's Corporate Centre on strategy, mergers and acquisitions, organisation and operations improvement. Prior to Tata, he began his career at the TVS Group.
Mr. Pauly graduated from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (MBA) and the College of Engineering, Guindy - Anna University (BE). In 2000, the Confederation of Indian Industry honoured Mr. Pauly as a "Young Business Leader of Tomorrow".
Director, Tata Opportunities Fund
Bhavya Gulati is a Director within the TOF Team, with five years of private equity experience in India.
In respect of TOF I, Mr. Gulati serves as a board member of Fincare. Prior to joining the TOF Team at Tata Capital in 2012, Mr. Gulati was a Director (M&A) at The Indian Hotel Company, a Tata group company; and was also involved in strategic initiatives of other Tata group companies, most notably with Tata Global Beverages’ JV with Starbucks and Infiniti Retail’s JV with Woolworths. Mr. Gulati also has prior experience with Larsen and Toubro (M&A), KPMG (Corporate Finance), Lazard, Ambit, ICICI and Arthur Andersen. Mr. Gulati has extensive experience in deal execution.
Mr. Gulati is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the London School of Economics (MSc International Accounting and Finance), and Shri Ram College of Commerce, B. Com (Honors).
Principal, Tata Opportunities Fund
Rishaad Bilimoria is a Principal within the TOF Team, with 11 years of private equity experience in India.
In respect of TOF I, Mr. Bilimoria serves as board observer of Varroc and TVS Logistics. Prior to joining the TOF Team at Tata Capital in 2011, Mr. Bilimoria spent over 5 years in Indian private equity with the JM Financial Private Equity Fund in Mumbai, where he served as a vice president and executed transactions in retail, offshore logistics, business outsourcing and consumer sectors. Prior to that, Mr. Bilimoria was with NBGI Ventures in London and JP Morgan’s investment banking division in London and New York.
Mr. Bilimoria is a graduate of the London Business School (MBA) and Harvard University (BA Economics).
Vice President, Tata Opportunities Fund
Ritesh Mandot is a Vice President within the TOF Team, with seven years of private equity experience in India.
In respect of TOF I, Mr. Mandot serves as board observer of Shriram Properties and provides portfolio management support in respect of Tata Sky and Uber. Prior to joining the TOF Team at Tata Capital in 2013, Mr. Mandot had 7 years of private equity experience in India at Gennext Ventures and Milestone Religare Private Equity. Mr. Mandot has also worked in investment banking with MAPE Advisory.
Mr. Mandot is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (MBA) and Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BE Honors, Electrical and Electronics Engineering).
Vice President, Tata Opportunities Fund
Musaed Noorani is a Vice President within the TOF Team, with five years of private equity experience in India.
In respect of TOF I, Mr. Noorani was involved in the investment in Shriram Properties and provides portfolio management support to Shriram Properties and Ginger Hotels. Prior to joining the TOF Team at Tata Capital in 2012, Mr. Noorani was a consultant at Monitor Group and worked in various banking roles with Barclays Securities, Credit Suisse Securities and ABN Amro Bank.
Mr. Noorani is a graduate of the Indian School of Business Hyderabad (MBA) and University of Mumbai (B. Com).
Associate, Tata Opportunities Fund
Anirudh joined Tata Opportunities Fund in September 2016 having previously worked at J. P. Morgan's investment banking division in Mumbai where he was part of the India Coverage team. While at J.P. Morgan he worked across sectors including real estate, technology and healthcare. He has also worked at System2 Capital, a long short equity hedge fund in London and MSCI, an equity index research provider.
Anirudh graduated from London Business School and also holds an MSc (Economics) and BE (Electronics & Instrumentation) from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani), India.
Analyst, Tata Opportunities Fund
Moin joined Tata Opportunities Fund in September 2014 having previously worked at J. P. Morgan's investment banking division where he was part of the Power and Utility - M&A and Capital markets advisory team in New York and Mumbai. While at J.P. Morgan he worked across segments of power, utility, and renewable energy industry. Moin graduated with a distinction from Jaihind College, Mumbai University, where he earned his Bachelors in Management Studies with a major in Finance.
Analyst, Tata Opportunities Fund
Maya joined Tata Opportunities Fund in July 2015 having previously worked at an investment management firm, Henderson Global Investors in London. While at Henderson she worked as an Analyst on the multi-asset team, responsible for preparing macroeconomic and asset allocation research.
She is a Post Graduate in Investment Management from Cass Business School, London and B.Sc. in Industrial Economic from University of Warwick, London.
Member of the Advisory Board, Tata Opportunities Fund
Professor Khanna has studied and worked with national and multinational companies and investors in emerging markets worldwide. He joined the faculty of Harvard Business School in 1993 and has directed several courses on strategy, corporate governance and international business targeted towards MBA students and senior executives at Harvard.
Professor Khanna currently teaches in Harvard's executive education programs and is Faculty Chair for HBS's activities in India. Professor Khanna's bestselling book, Billions of Entrepreneurs: How China and India are Reshaping Their Futures and Yours, focuses on the drivers of entrepreneurship in China and India. He is also the co-author of Winning in Emerging Markets: A Roadmap for Strategy and Execution, published by Harvard Business Press in April 2010.
In 2007, Professor Khanna was nominated as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. In 2009, he was elected a fellow of the Academy of International Business. Professor Khanna holds an engineering degree from Princeton University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Senior Advisor, Tata Opportunities Fund
Prakash Telang joined Tata Motors in 1972 through the prestigious Tata Administrative Service (TAS) programme and spent four decades in various roles within the company. In 2009, Mr. Telang was appointed as Managing Director of the firm's India operations.
During his tenure at Tata Motors, Mr. Telang oversaw the development of some of the company's most successful products and played a significant role in cost reduction and e-procurement initiatives which have enabled the company to improve its operations. Mr. Telang has also served on the boards of several of Tata Motors- joint ventures including: HV Transmissions Limited, Telco Construction Equipment Company Limited, HV Axles Limited and the Automobile Corporation of Goa.
Presently, Mr. Telang serves as a Director on the board of Telco Construction Equipment Company Limited and Persistent Systems Limited. Mr. Telang holds an engineering degree from Nagpur University and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Senior Advisor, Tata Opportunities Fund
Homi Khusrokhan joined the Tata group as Managing Director of Tata Tea Limited in 2001. Mr. Khusrokhan joined the Board of Tata Chemicals Limited in 2004 and was appointed as the company's Managing Director in 2006. Prior to joining Tata, he was the Country Head & Managing Director of the Glaxo group in India from 1996 to 2000 and also served as the Managing Director of Burroughs Wellcome in India.
During his tenure with Tata Tea Limited and Tata Chemicals Limited, Mr. Khusrokhan was part of the senior leadership team that managed several cross-border acquisitions including Tetley, Brunner Mond and General Chemicals Industrial Products.
Presently Mr. Khusrokhan serves as director on the boards of several leading Indian companies including ICICI Bank, Tata AIG Life Insurance Company, Rallis, Advinus Therapeutics, Samson Maritime and Novalead Pharma. Mr. Khusrokhan obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) degree from the University of Mumbai and is a qualified chartered accountant. He also holds a Masters degree in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
